The Protected Areas Fund (FANP, Spanish acronym) celebrated 25 years of operating as a financial mechanism that contributes to the conservation and permanence of priority ecosystems. In partnership with National Commission of Protected Areas (CONANP, Spanish acronym), FANP channels resources to 55 protected areas (PAs) to strengthen their operation and management, which translates into the protection of 54% of land territory and 35% of the protected marine territory, that is, a total of 36.18 million hectares. In November 2022, Mexican Fund for the Conservation of Nature (FMCN, Spanish acronym) celebrated its anniversary in the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve, together with the staff of the PAs supported, CONANP, civil society and communities, as well as groups of local producers. Thanks to the collaboration between government, civil society and communities and the trust of more than twenty-three donors who have joined this initiative since 1997, FANP is a national and international reference. In 2022, FMCN launched the biennial call for the Protected Areas Learning Community, a network promoted by FANP since 2009 and made up of PA staff and social organizations. In 2023, eight proposals will receive funding to exchange experiences between PAs.
