Monarch Butterfly Fund

The Monarch Butterfly Fund contributes since 2000 to the reduction of illegal logging in the monarch butterfly's winter refuge habitat, located in the core zone of the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, under the administration of National Commission of Protected Areas (CONANP, Spanish acronym). In 2022, thanks to the conservation, surveillance and detection of pests and fires activities by the agrarian communities, project partners identified 2,594 hectares in the process of restoration. Likewise, 33 agrarian groups received payments for environmental services through the Mexican Forestry Fund (CONAFOR, Spanish acronym), to encourage protection actions in their territory, the maintenance of environmental services and the conservation of the migratory phenomenon of the monarch butterfly in North America.
